Castel Guelfo The Style Outlets is an open-air outlet village located 25 kilometres southeast of Bologna, just off the A14 motorway near Imola. It opened in 2003 and has grown to over 100 stores selling clothing, shoes, accessories, and homeware from both luxury and premium brands at permanent discounts — typically 30 to 70 percent off regular retail prices. It is one of the most practical day trips from Bologna for anyone who wants to shop seriously.

The outlet covers a wide range of price points. On the higher end: Prada, Gucci, Burberry, Armani, Versace, Bottega Veneta, Tod’s, and Hogan. In the mid-to-premium range: Furla, Polo Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger, Liu Jo, Pinko, Diesel, and Levi’s. There are also sports and casualwear stores including Nike and Adidas. The mix changes over time — not every brand is permanent — but the core luxury offer has been consistent for years.

Getting There

By Car

The most convenient option. Take the A14 motorway south from Bologna toward Ancona, exit at Castel San Pietro Terme, then follow signs for Castel Guelfo. The drive takes around 25–30 minutes from the city centre. Free parking on site.

By Shuttle

A free shuttle bus runs from Bologna city centre (departing from near the main railway station) on weekends and during sale periods. Check the outlet’s website for the current timetable — the schedule changes seasonally and is not always running on weekdays.

By Train

Take a regional train from Bologna Centrale to Castel San Pietro Terme (around 20 minutes, frequent departures). From the station, a taxi or a walk of around 15 minutes reaches the outlet. Not the most convenient option but workable.

When to Go

Weekdays are significantly quieter than weekends, especially in summer. The two main sale periods — January and July — bring the deepest additional discounts but also the largest crowds. If you are coming from Bologna on a Saturday in August, expect queues at popular stores. A Tuesday morning in October is a very different experience.
