The area around Florence contains some of Italy’s most famous outlet shopping destinations — The Mall, the Prada Space outlet, and Barberino Designer Outlet among them. For visitors based in Bologna, these are all reachable as day trips: Florence is around 35 minutes by high-speed train, and the outlets are a short drive from there. Barberino, halfway between Bologna and Florence on the A1, can be reached directly in under an hour by car without going into Florence at all.
The Mall — Leccio di Reggello
The most prestigious of the Tuscany outlets, located 30 kilometres southeast of Florence in Leccio di Reggello. The Mall houses flagship mono-brand boutiques for the top luxury names: Gucci, Bottega Veneta, Saint Laurent, Balenciaga, Loro Piana, Valentino, Alexander McQueen, and others. Discounts start at 30% and go higher on older stock. Open daily 10:00–19:00. A shuttle runs from Florence city centre; by car it is about 40 minutes from Florence or 2 hours from Bologna.
Prada Space Outlet — Valdarno
The Spaccio Prada in Montevarchi (Valdarno) is one of the most visited outlets in Italy — Prada and Miu Miu past-season stock at discounts of up to 50%, rising to 70–75% during sale periods. The store is large, well-organised, and well worth the trip for anyone serious about these brands. Around one hour south of Florence; about 2 hours from Bologna by car or train to Montevarchi. Open Monday–Saturday 9:30–19:00, Sunday 14:00–19:00.
Barberino Designer Outlet
A McArthurGlen outlet village 40 kilometres north of Florence, halfway between Bologna and Florence on the A1 motorway. For Bologna-based visitors this is the most accessible Tuscany outlet — under an hour by car without going into Florence. Over 100 stores including Burberry, Polo Ralph Lauren, Coach, Ermenegildo Zegna, and a range of Italian and international mid-to-premium brands. Architecture modelled on a Tuscan village, open-air layout. Open daily 10:00–20:00.
Valdichiana Outlet Village
Located near Foiano della Chiana, about one hour south of Florence toward Arezzo. Over 130 stores covering a broad mix of Italian and international labels — good for a longer shopping day if you are already visiting the Prada outlet in Valdarno, as the two are in the same general direction from Florence.
Roberto Cavalli Outlet — Florence
The Roberto Cavalli factory outlet in Osmannoro, on the outskirts of Florence near the airport, offers past-season Cavalli and Just Cavalli pieces at significant reductions. More practical than a full outlet village — a focused single-brand stop that makes sense if you are passing through the Florence area.

Practical Notes
- From Bologna: High-speed train to Florence takes 35 minutes (frequent departures from Bologna Centrale). From Florence Santa Maria Novella, the outlets require a car or organised transfer — public transport connections are limited
- Barberino direct: If your priority is Barberino, drive straight down the A1 from Bologna — no need to go into Florence
- Sale periods: Mid-January to mid-March and mid-July to mid-September bring the deepest additional discounts across all outlets
- VAT refund: Non-EU visitors can claim a VAT refund on purchases above the minimum threshold — ask at the store for a tax-free form at the time of purchase
- Organised tours: Several Florence-based operators run half-day shopping transfers to The Mall and Barberino with hotel pickup — useful if you do not have a car
